COCCO SALON FINALISTS

BRITISH HAIR & BEAUTY AWARDS 2017

What an exciting year so far!

We are finalists in not 2 but 3 awards this year in The English Hair and Beauty Awards and The British Hair And Beauty Awards.

What an amazing achievement to be finalists in every award we have entered!

Hayley and the team are totally blown away by the amazing feedback from our clients that has enabled us to get this far.

Customer service is something we work so hard on each and every day and will continue to take it to the next level, sadly in the UK, there isn't always great levels of customer service across all industries but it is improving,  our number one goal at Cocco Salon is to make sure our clients always leave the salon happy!

The winner will be announced on 7th June so fingers crossed for then!!

Summer Colour Trend Vintage Pretty Is Here!

VINTAGE PRETTY COLLECTION

Tracey Devine Smith, Affinage Uk

There is such a buzz around pastels and metallics in the hair world right now and Affinage's latest collection encapsulates that perfectly.  The past vintage themes were so strong on the catwalk and in the bridal scene, this blend of the two is perfect for summer and gives a sofer and extremely wearable interpretation of the colour bringing something fresh in 2017.

We just love love love this collection, it's the whole teams favourite by far from Tracey and the Affinage team. All of these beautiful tones can be created over a pre-lightened base of a very light pale blonde, They are labour intensive with often a tri colour application (3 colour applications in one appointment) but they are worth the investment of time and money to have such stunning hair!

If you're in love with Vintage Pretty, get in touch for a free consultation and estimate.

We Are Finalists In The English Hair & Beauty Awards!

awards picture.JPG

The whole team are totally over the moon with our finalist status in the category for best team /  customer service at the English Hair and beauty awards. To be finalists in our first ever awards entry has been amazing, especially in what we consider to be the most important category!

The whole team got dressed up and traveled to the award ceremony held at the Athena, Leicester where we were treated to an evening of entertainment, a 3 course meal and most importantly an after party!

Sadly we didn't win this year but we cannot wait for next year, A huge thank you to all of our amazing clients who took the time to complete the nomination form online and in salon, without you this would not have been possible.

Reading all of the wonderful feedback has been by far the most precious reward and is the reason the team all work so hard every day to keep you happy!

How To Get Your Dream Hair & Manage Those Expectations!

Are You Planning Your Summer Hair Yet?

This before base had 2 - 3 balayage applications prior to the transformation on the right.

Great hair doesn't always happen over night...

Nowadays we are inundated with hordes of pictures of amazing transformations by hair magicians all over the world. Thanks to the Instagrammers, You tubers and tweeters we can all keep up to date with everything new and wonderful in the world of hair. If a Kardashian colours her hair we will know within the hour or sometimes as it is being applied thanks to Snapchat.

This world of instant knowledge is a breeding ground for unrealistic expectations. Hair colouring is science, it takes a vast amount of product and hair knowledge, experience and investment in amazing products, both for the transformation and for the home care.

All is not what it seems...

Often, what the Instagramer fails to point out is the true time taken of some of those transformations, many have a full day with a top stylist for around 9 hours, we've all seen Guy Tang going for lunch in the mall with his clients and watching (singing to) Disney mid-transformation. This is the harsh reality of celebrity hair, it often is beautifully natural and low key but takes a life time to create, oh and $1000!

A great one to follow is my old boss Nicky Lazou, she get amazing results but she will not push the hair, you build up to your dream hair a number of sittings and she's big on home care like me.

Into the salon...

So clutching your phone loaded with 10 Pinterest boards you enter the salon and begin the conversation with your stylist, your smile starts to drop as they gently try to break it to you that you may not get that in one go.... the translation here is, and they don't want to be rude or hurt your feelings but.... can you afford £/$1000? If the answers no then you cannot do it in 1 go! Even if you own OLAPLEX it is not happening.

It's not that we don't want to and it's certainly not that we want to charge you more money, trust us when we say big transformations are not where the money's at,,, give us a full head of highlights and a glaze any day! These transformations are like haveing 5 hair appointments in one day, which is why it has such a hefty price tag.

Colour correction is stressful for the client and stylist, it can be unpredictable, remember that box dye you used 3 years ago, just the once because you we're broke? yeah it just came back to bite us in the ass... (yes it's important you tell us)

Ultimately we want to make you happy, your happiness is the single reason we stylists put up with the long days, the absents of loo breaks and staying late because your hair was thicker than we expected. We love our job and love delivering that feeling of euphoria when your stylist makes you look and feel hotter than a Victoria's Secret Model! but please let us manage your expectations, please don't push and bully us into doing something that compromises your hair health. Stylist's are creative people, natural risk takers and they have to reign that back, the only time a clients hair usually goes wrong is when a stylist buckles under pressure to do something they aren't more than 90% convinced will go right and guess what, if that gamble doesn't pay off you will slate them all over the internet saying they are a bad hairdresser when it was probably 2ml of too much ash or not enough ash that landed them in that hot water.

With that said, dream hair is possible and with the right advice and guidance by a good stylist can be achieved.

Read my blog post Hayley's Top Tips For Changing Your Hair Colour to get it right with your stylist.

Now is the time to start that summer hair journey, if you are lucky enough to get it in one hit then all you have to do until the summer lights up our lives is maintain it!

Hayley's Top Tips For Changing Your Hair Colour

balay10.jpg

So, you're fed up with your hair....

It's been ages since you tried something new and you're ready, ready to take the plunge and change your hair colour.

The preparation when going lighter and darker is actually quite different.

If your wanting to go lighter, the main thing you need to think about above all is the health and condition of your hair and upping your hair care routine. Do you have at least 20 mins a week to dedicate to a hair mask and be prepared to use products to preserve your locks as straightening and bleaching without using protection is a sure way to end up with very little hair.

However, if you don't like your new, lighter you, it is very easy to go back to black dare we say... Going back to your darker hair colour will be very easy and relatively inexpensive.

On the other hand, if you wish to go darker, you have much more to consider. Clients don't always realise this but if you don't like your new darker reflection when you look in the mirror, it will take a lot of time, home care and money, especially if you we're very blonde before to go back to blonde or sometimes even a mid brown if you have gone very dark.

This is the reason hair colourists think box home dyes are the work of the devil because they are so hard to get rid off, not only do they dye the hair they stain it too! (we will be posting on this soon) If you have salon colour on your hair it is much easier to lift out.. easier meaning quicker and cheaper for you.

Think it through...

When you are going for a big change always bring a picture, in fact the more the merrier. Bring pictures of what you like, love and don't like to make sure your stylist know what look you're after and that you've really thought about it. I sometimes make sure my clients ask me on 2 consecutive appointments before I will do something drastic. Ok, so I have some clients who are always changing their hair but others realy don't do impulsive when it comes to hair as they usually regret it.

TOP TIPS

1. Take pictures.

2. Remember, you aren't going to look like the person in the picture unless we stick it to your head and if you bring a 20 year old picture in of a darker / lighter you ... Chances are you're not going to look like you did then... Sorry.

3. Think about the maintenance needed for you new colour, think about time and money you will need to invest to keep it looking amazing.

4. Use the right masks for your hair in the run up to the transformation, this will make your colour last longer and lift better. Ask your stylist which is best for you.

5. Listen to your stylist, we don't like saying no, but sometimes we have to and if a stylist doesn't want to do it, there must be a good reason for it so listen and find out more...

6. Don't be disheartened if it can't be done in 1 day if Khloe Kardashian took 8 sittings maybe you will.

7. Find a good salon who have a good reputation and if you need something advanced expect to be passed on to a senior stylist or director to ensure you get a good job.

8. Use the recommended home care, shop shampoo will not keep your new beautiful colour looking good. Expect you use a shampoo, conditioner, mask (sometimes 2) and leave in treatments and sprays if lightening.

9. Re-book, if your stylist is a good one, rebooking is essential, if your colour is even a week late it can cause banding or uneven colour, so ask your stylist how long they recommend before you visit again. For block / global colours expect 4-6 weeks, highlights 6 weeks and balayage is very low maintenance but your glaze and cut will need redoing at 6 weeks if you are prone to excess warmth or have yellow phobia! Weekends and evenings are always mega busy, sometime you will have to book 2 in advance if this is your preferred slot.

10. Nothing lasts forever so go on and try something new and if you don't like it we can change it... Happy Colouring!

Wan't To Know Michelle's Secret To Beautiful Lashes?

Hate wearing mascara? Tired of using eyelash curlers?

We girls all have the same pet hates....

You're getting ready and your lashes just won't go right! We have all developed our own little ritual that gets them looking just right, but one wrong move and there's just no fixing it... no pins or cotton buds will sort that mess out!

Short, Clumpy Sparse Lashes? Or you may have long lovely lashes that stick out so straight, you have to keep curling them.

Either way, after so many years of hearing my clients, complain about this and personally battling with the victorian torcher device more commonly known as the lash curler... Just don't sneeze or you will pull them all out! eeek... I decided to seek an alternative way and answer all our prayers.
After trying different methods I came across Nouveau, I'd seen them mentioned in Grazia, Cosmopolitan, Vouge, Elle and various trade magazines I decided to check them out.

The results were amazing and being the preferred choice of so many celebrities I can see why.

What To Expect Having a Nouveau LVL Treatment?

LVL from Nouveau is a great, natural way to enhance your lashes. If you don't fancy extensions or your new to the lash game, this is a great treatment to start with.

LVL stands for Length, Volume and Lift.

No extensions or mascara, just your natural lashes with no harmful damage or adhesive. We lift the eyelashes and straighten them unlike the old eyelash perm where a roller was used, we straighten from the root up using a shield on the eyelid, this is to create that ' wide eyed' look.

A tint is then applied giving the mascara effect which gives shine and depth to the lashes. Results lasting 6-8 weeks, this is a quick 40- 45 minute treatment which is quite relaxing for the client.

Want to wake up with perfect lashes every morning? Then give LVL a try! The results are amazing.

A patch test is required 48 hrs prior to treatment, Book online or Call to reserve your appointment.

Anita's Top Tips On What To Expect During A Massage.

Anita In Action At Our Christmas Countdown Event...

Anita In Action At Our Christmas Countdown Event...

Never had a massage before?

When it comes to our health, prevention is always better than cure.

Prevention involves all sorts of mediums such as a good diet and exercise, experiencing joyful activities and resting but one thing a lot of people are not very good at is positive self-care.

By positive self-care, I mean engaging in an activity that will serve us on a better level and keep us well such as massage.

Massage is a great way to relax and take time for and nurture yourself without feeling that it is an indulgence but rather a necessity in our busy lives. We cannot give when we have no reserves left. Even in just a half hour massage you can switch off to the outside world and relax completely-something many people find difficult to do.

Massage can help remove excess fluid, relax tense muscles, relieve aches and pains, increase circulation, improve digestion and counteract the effects of stress which is prevalent in today's society.

What to expect during a massage.

If you have never been for a massage before and are a little worried about what to expect then here is an overview of what will happen during a therapy session.

First of all, it’s important to say that the session is all about you. It’s about you enjoying the experience, relaxing and feeling better. If there is anything you feel uncomfortable with or do not like, then it is absolutely ok not to proceed or continue.

Every practitioner operates differently so this is a guide as to what to expect.

  • Essential oils are diffused in the room so if you have any preference or dislike the smell then please do say.

  •   Soothing music is also played in the background; again if you find it unsuitable then please say.

  •  I will take a history to ensure there are no contraindications to you having a treatment.  This ensures your safety and well-being and identifies expected outcomes of the treatment. This is also a time in which the I can find out likes and dislikes and areas that maybe need concentrating on e.g. back and shoulders or legs.

  •    I will then leave the room whilst you undress and place yourself on the couch and cover up. Again if you are uncomfortable with having to undress then we can work out a way to make you feel more at ease.

  •    Your feet will be cleansed and a full body massage will generally start with the legs. With a full body massage, I will start working on the front of the body then, half way through you will turn over onto your front and I finish with a back massage. Dignity and privacy are of utmost importance and will be maintained throughout.

  •  Oil of an agreed type will be applied where the I will be working so there will be a fine coating of oil all over your body by the end. Please bear this in mind with items of clothing you will be wearing after the massage.

  •    I will then work through my routine which can be adapted to your individual needs and check pressure is good but you can always say during the massage if you would like deeper or less pressure. This is your time so it’s important you get the best out of it.

  •      Once the massage is finished then I will leave the room give you a few minutes to come back to the present moment, have some water and get dressed.

  •   At this time, we can discuss what you enjoyed and find out if there was anything you didn’t enjoy or change for next time.

  •      Aftercare advice will then be given and the treatment is complete.

What to expect after a massage...

Drink Water

After your massage your therapist will bring you a glass of water, you should try to drink as much as possible as this will help to flush out the toxins released from your muscles and body during your massage, Over the next 24 hrs try to keep as hydrated as possible.

After any massage, it is always advisable not to do anything strenuous or stressful to get the full benefit.

Take A Bath

Run a nice warm bath, this will help to soothe any aching muscles or soreness and continue your relaxation and 'me time' post treatment.

Pay Attention To Your Body's Reaction To The Massage

You may feel energised, tired, sore, emotional amongst many other things, this is all normal. It is important to listen to your body and feed-back to your therapist on your next session so he or she can tailor your message perfectly to you and make any necessary adjustments.

Rest

You may feel tired after your massage and want to take a nap. This is completely normal, and you should listen to your body. If you can, clear your schedule after your diary.

Massage works on the body and the mind too.  It helps to destress and relax you so if you can, take the time to come back into land and rebalance, try not to feel pressure to do something if you really don't need to.
